Valerie Zuidema grew up in Haileybury, Ontario, a 5 minute drive from one of the most historic mining towns there is, Cobalt. Like many other children in the area she spent many hours amongst the old ruins of mines and mills in Cobalt. She has since lived in some of the most famous mining camps in Ontario and Manitoba including Timmins, Kirkland Lake, Red Lake, Sudbury and The San Antonio district in Manitoba. She never forgot the town she once loved as a child and is now recapturing this love with paintings of the landmarks she has lived among.
